Is She Actually Crazy, Or Was She Just Demanding Respect?

For many years, women’s reactions have been blamed on two things: hormones, or just being “crazy”. I put quotations on the word “crazy”, because often I question if a girl’s reaction to her treatment is genuine and valid, or if she actually was being crazy.

If you’re a female, and you’ve ever snapped at someone, I’m sure many of you have been asked the infamous question of if you’re on your period, or just been “diagnosed” with serious PMS-ing, but one thing that stuck out to me was Megan Fox’s line in the film, Jennifer’s Body by Diablo Cody, where she states “PMS-ing isn’t real, Needy. It’s something made up by the boy run media to convince us girls we’re crazy.” While this is just one line in a teen movie, it holds a lot of truth to it, leading into my question: Are most girls really “crazy or hormonal” or are they just tired of your bulls***?

Though I wish to remain anonymous while writing this article, I can tell you that I have been coined as a bonafide “Crazy B****” for reacting to how I was treated by a boy. So, without getting personal I will leave you with a common scenario to hopefully make you think. Imagine a couple just broke up, because one of the partners cheated, and the other’s reaction was not to smile and laugh and get on with it. The other partner may have yelled at him, cussed him out, and (hopefully) ended the relationship (as she/he/they should!). The cheater is going to go around to all the friends and claim the partner was “crazy”, but are they really, or were they just demanding respect for themself? Think about it before making up your mind completely.

While of course there are many cases where the girl may actually be crazy, and do things like wreck his car, physically abuse their partner, and inflict many other forms of violence. Violence against men should NOT be ignored at all, and is often not taken seriously enough, but analyze the case before giving a girl the title of “crazy”. Did she physically harm you? Did she threaten to? Did she emotionally abuse you? Did she wreck property? Did she continue to harass you in any way? If the answer to these were no, then congratulations! You did not have to deal with a “crazy chick”.

The fact of the matter is that the term is often misused. Another example of this could be politics. Look at male politicians versus female politicians during their speeches, or more specifically the comment section. When men in politics show emotion during their speeches, or wave their hands around, they're labeled as "passionate", or when they're more stoic in their speeches, they're labeled as "serious" but in a good way. On the other hand, when women in politics get passionate, they're "crazy and unstable", or if they are serious, they're "cold and heartless". In many areas, women cannot show emotion, without it being analyzed negatively.

Once again, I am not denying that there are many women out there who have reacted in a crazy way to things, I am also pointing out there are also so many women who reacted in a normal manner, but are labeled as such. The truth is she isn't "crazy", she just wants to be treated with respect. She isn't "hormonal" either for getting upset about basic things, or for getting passionate when she talks.

To end this off, my message to all the girls who have been named as “crazy” by people who wouldn’t give us basic human decency would be that respect shouldn’t be something you have to ask for, nonetheless get called something you’re not for demanding it when not given to you.
